Kids Toys Art Idea; Whats in your pocket….?
We went to the Wimbledon art studios last month. Its a collective studio space in South West London, housing the studios of about 250 artists. Twice a year they have a studio show. We bought this piece for £80. (Annoyingly I have lost the artist name sorry). But what a cool idea. A kind of kids toys art work. The artist has collected all the bits and pieces that any self respecting boy of the 1970s would have had in his pocket.
What would you would put in a kids toys art work?
I bought it for the hallway outside the kids bedroom, and I love it. Collecting the odds and sods that epitomise childhood for my own kids really appeals to me. During my childhood, I remember collecting Bazooka Jo wrappers like crazy, and playing jacks for hours with my sister. Sadly these days, electronic gadgets may take the place of marbles and Jacks I suspect.
It would be fairly easy to recreate this idea using a standard shadow box, and collecting together the little toys or favourite sweet wrappers from your childrens era. Like a little visual time capsule. Mine would have match attack cards, moshi monsters, randomly a plastic rhinoceros. It would also include some of the little notes Abbi has left me over the years.
I’d love to hear what epitomises your kids childhood – what would you include.
