Porridge with Maple Syrup and Strawberries
In Scotland, porridge is traditionally served with a pinch of salt and water. If my dad reads this post, he may well disown me, but my favourite combo is Porridge with Maple Syrup and Strawberries. I think I must have been down south too long. I am also a sucker for heart shaped foods. I’m pretty sure they taste nicer.
Ingredients per person:
- 50g Porridge oats (use good quality oats)
- 150ml Semi skimmed milk
- 2 table spoons maple syrup
- Pinch of salt
- 1-2 Strawberries
Method:
Porridge works really well in the microwave. Place the oats in the bottom of a microwavable jug. The jug needs to have enough space for the porridge to expand. Add a slug of maple syrup, and the milk. Heat in the microwave on medium for 2-3 minutes. Take it out and stir the porridge. The oats should all have broken down. If they haven’t, return to the microwave for a few more minutes.Cut the strawberries into slices. (You don’t have to cut them in to heart shapes!).
Serve the porridge with maple syrup and coffee!
