Easy Ombre Cake Topper Instructions with Ombre Cake
You can rustle up these cake toppers in about 15 minutes. Perfect for last minute guests or random adhoc and unusual celebrations. Also super easy to coordinate with any colour scheme.
Materials:
- Cardstock or thick paper
- Paint / ink
- Skewers
- Paintbrush
- Scissors or craft knife
Method:
Paint rough stripes (I used ink diluted with water) on card stock or thick paper. Add more ink to you mix getting darker towards the bottom. This dries in a matter of seconds – perfect for impatient people like me. I did a few strips worth, as I was also using these to make ombre gift tags at the same time).
I roughly sketched out the words in pencil….if you were more pernickety you could of course use a stencil.
Cut out the letters with scissors – or for a more accurate cut, an Xacto/craft knife.
Attach the letters to skewers and stick in your cake. (I used blue tac, but for a better finish use glue). Easy peasy.
I attempted to ombre my icing as well………unfortunately the photos make it look like I have just blobbed the darker stuff at the bottom. Darn it this looks so easy on pinterest.
It looked better in person, honest. The cake was decorated in minutes, and consumed in even less time.
