Personalised Steak Sandwich

A favourite Friday night dinner for my son is a steak sandwich with caramelised onions. But I like to pimp it up a little with a message written in the sandwich. Personalised Steak Sandwich

Waitrose and Tesco both do thin sirloin steaks for around £1 each, which makes this a fast easy, and relatively cheap way to treat him on a Friday night.

Ingredients:  (As if you need to be told)

  • Toasted bread
  • Minute steak, seasoned
  • 1/2 teaspoon of oil for frying
  • Caramelised Onions
  • Chips (optional)
  • Salad (to be left on the side of the plate)

Method:

Use mini cookie cutters to make little messages in one of the slices of bread.Personalised Steak SandwichThen toast it.  Thin ready sliced bread works best for this, or the definition of the letters can get lost a little. This is no time for seeded granary!Personalised Steak SandwichAs a bonus, the bread letters that you cut out can be toasted in the oven, or very lightly coated in garlicy oil for croutons.  Don’t ever say you don’t get value for money on this blog!

Fry the steak in half a teaspoon of olive oil until  it has a nice colour on the outside.Personalised Steak SandwichWhile the steak is cooking,  spread caramelised onions to one of the sides of the toast.  Feel free to make your own, but this stuff is genius.  I bung it in loads of things, so we always have a jar in the fridge.  It goes well with cheese, or as a base for casseroles.  As I said genius.   Put a healthy dollop on one side of the steak sandwich.Personalised Steak SandwichAssemble the sandwich, and enjoy.Personalised Steak SandwichMix up the messages depending on your mood or guest list.
